The ultimate Neo Vintage Tamico Off Road Cup Challenge
Chapter 4 - THE RACE AFTERMATH
I know, I am late with the race report. But better late, than never!
So let´s get started with day 1 of my 5 days of racing in paradise city aka EDC Kinzigtal in the beautiful south of Germany!

My road trip started early in the night from my new hometown Bremerhaven to the black forrest in the south of Germany, where everything is a perfect world. I arrived the town at noon one day before the races. So I could relax from the travel and take a look at the track.

Perfect weather, perfect track and a Tamiya Wild One in the drift. That´s a good start into a amazing 4-days racing event! The Tamico Days 2025! I built my tent, had nice chats with the lads. Had a good time and was early in my hotel to catch up some sleep after the short night. The next Day started with sunshine and a very good mood!

The Tamico headquarters tent. There was a lot of stuff for sale.

They also brought this bouncing monster truck thing! It´s all about the details, friends!

The arrive of the legendary race announcer (and long time rc buddy) Marco Heinrich and René Sagawe! In the background Kyosho Europe boss Christophe Bouvet and Joachim Startek from Tamico.

Without him, the Tamico Offroad Cup would not be possible. Jörg Unkelbach and his girlfriend Sandra!

Photographer Benjamin Küsters sitting in the shadow. He is the one who makes all these fantastic shots! Most of them in this report are from him!

My tent with some of my show cars.

There were many racers who visited me to have a chat. Not only the guys I knew from old times. There were many vintage racers who knew me from this blog and told me, they were inspired by my builds and to race again after a long time. This really made me happy!

My seatmate Philipp Arnold from Switzerland after his 30-years break of RC Car racing. He did not lost his driving skills at all! We had so much fun over the days.

The race day started and the club opened the doors for food and drinks.

Day 1 of the Kyosho Legendary Cup started and all drivers getting a little bit excited.
I was there with my Kyosho Ultima Pro XL and the Lazer. While my Lazer was amazing on the track, the Ultima had massive Power issues.

Looks good but was too slow. For the Kyosho race there were the Kyosho 22T motors mandated. I changed the motor but nothing went better. Maybe the speedo had an issue. So I decided to run the Lazer only for the race.

And my Lazer was a weapon! It handled amazing!

There were also some other Lazers and they all was pretty quick! The locals, who know this track until the smallest grain of sand, were super fast! And it´s funny, that they were fast with pretty everything on 4 wheels. While normal racers ruined their throttle fingers on modern high grip astro, or carpet tracks, these locals had a trigger finger made out of whipped cream.

Simply beautiful. The track within the nature of the black forrest. The amazing event. The weather and always big smile in the faces of the racers!

There was a armada of Optima Mids. But also some rear motor Optimas and Javelins, who was not slow!

The Ultima was clearly the car of choice on this event in the 2WD section.

Fast and style!

The Triumph from Philipp Arnold was one of the quickest!

Tommy Peters original EURO Lazer with long shocks on the front.

Even those Javelins were pretty quick on this slippery track.

Again - Benjamin Küsters is a god of RC Car photography.

After 2 days of practice, qualifying and finals I ended up on P10 in the A-Final. I tried my best to keep up with the locals and drove my ass off. So I should be glad about it. There were 40 drivers in the 4WD class. So not too shabby! Driving on real dirt is art. Drifting around the corners and to be carfully with the throttle is something I totally forgot over the years of racing. And the old memories came back, when this was totally normal in the 80´s and 90´s. Driving on slippery dirt needs a mental flow. Every corner needs a plan, when you start to steer. You have to steer 1 meter, 2 meters, or 3 meters before the corner comes. You always have to calculate your sliding on the track to drive tight as possible around the corners. Today we just make sprints from one corner to the other. This does not work here.

So race day 2 ended with happy and sun burned faces and a lot of dust. The Kyosho Legendary Cup was over with a huge success! Time to get a pizza, a beer and spend the evening with the boys!

It was saturday and Mr. Jun Watanabe from Blockhead Motors arrived all the way from Japan in style. Time for the Tamico Off Road Cup!

Youtuber alarm! The Kress Garage was there!

At this race there were even more drivers. Tents everywhere! The atmosphere was fantastic! It was loud. People made fun and jokes. Sharing old and new stories.

There were virtually all Tamiya cars on the track.

The BBX buggies has it´s own class.

There were 100% kit cars and also some wild modified builds to see.

Jun Watanabes Blockhead Hotshot - with kit tires!

Black beauty

Of course the Top Force cars were the quickest here.

This Wild One is really cool!

On his Blockhead Motors World Tour. Jun-san spent a lot of time with autographs.

He drove his own iconic pink tires on his Frog. And it turned out, Mr. Watanabe is a pretty good driver!

And he is a very nice guy. Even if you make jokes with him.

So we raced the whole day until dusk. What a beautiful view! My Supershot was pretty good, but my driving skills could not keep up with the local heroes. Anyway, we had so much fun and laughs this day.

it can not get any better.

The wheely class in the night lights. Time for a beer. See you next morning, guys!

This was the start at sunday morning. There was a storm over the night with heavy rain.

Is rain a reason to stop us from racing? We are kids from the 80´s! Of course not! Let´s clean the track, boys!

After drying and cleaning the track, the race started again! Race day 4! And we had some decent grip thanks the rain.

After our beloved cars were powdered with dust the last days, now they got a stylish mud finish they deserved.

That´s a big ass BBX!

The first heats were wet! Awesome! My Supshot was great to drive and the extra grip on the track helped alot for handling.

Benjamin made some mindblowing shots of the shot!

Mud racing! Try this on Astro Turf.

There were so many Top Forces at this race. But I was able to leave many of them behind me.

The Supershot went really well. Easy to drive and fast. I had zero technical issues. Only, when the track started to dry and we lost all the grip, the car was harder to drive and the Top Forces took over the lead.
Watch the video of my Supershot winning heat from Kress Garage.

Race announcer and long term friend Marco Heinrich did an amazing job here! He provided us with phantastic atmoshere, jokes and trash talk over 4 days of racing. Big time! Thanks so much, my friend!

Watching the freaks from the wheelie class.

Jun Watanabes Blockhead Hotshot. He got ambitious the second day and started to switch to racing tires and a new shock setup. That´s the real racer!

That´s it! That was the race! So many racers. So many stories. Old dudes, young guns. We all had a great time with our Tamiya buddies! Oh, I made P16 out of 48 racers in the 4WD class with my Supershot! Pretty good result!

I won the Car Of The Day trophy with my Supershot.
Bertin Sorgenfrey, the head of the EDC Kinzigtal asked me to find some words about the event. And this is my answer.
We had 4 days of fun, drama and emotions. 4 days of meeting old and new friends. 4 days of sharing old stories and jokes, when we were young. 4 days of fantastic mixed weather on the most beautifull track in Germany surrounded by pure nature. Most of us experienced (or still experience) some good and also some bad stories in the book of life. Some suffer, some fighting and some had simply luck in their life. These 4 days remembered us a time, when we were young and lighthearted and friends.
Thanks to all members and helpers of the EDC Kinzigtal for all their hard work on the track! Thanks to Joachim Startek and Marc Stölting from Tamico! Thanks to Jörg Unkelbach to run the Tamico Offroad Cup with big success! Thanks to Christophe Bouvet from Kyosho Europe for providing us with great retro kits and running the Kyosho Legendary Cup!
Thanks to Benjamin Küsters for the legendary photos!

Keep racing!
